History of David Andrew Davis

I grew up next to a forest with a creek running through the trees and an iconic bridge from which we launched rafts and small boats. The first built forms were lean to sheds and forts built with parents and some of the neighborhood boys. We were initially scared of Indians approaching and then when that didn’t quite happen. larger rattle snakes, gross water slugs.

Actually it all began though in a dense urban environment with a large statue of Scottish poet Robert Burns. I could see him square on from my bedroom window and was woken up by bagpipes on his birthday each year. The city dwelling was full of activity with my fathers clinic downstairs and we above with British story books and nursery and my fathers library, where my love of books and fountain pens began with him & mother the scholar nearby.

The contrast between the french 19th century dwelling in the city and the forest with contemporary wood, glass and CMU block formed my imagination and my sharing of Dads’ interest in architecture. Today many years later, I am deeply appreciative of these contrasts and then the time all of this provided in other countries and libraries that now include my own. Architecture and Fine Art along with music were huge in my life from the start and today my studio has a great deal of this formation from my childhood.

In January I was back in the beginning places in Milwaukee with my Davanzo and Davis families, celebrating and thankful for how it all began. We were a bit bogged down with snow drifts and below 0 temperatures but plans were made for visits to DAVY in downtown L A in April and we continued the great times this month. My life has been about all that is evident in my outlay of design, fine art, and business work and then also about my early theological Studies in Switzerland. It also has been about my family and closest of friends who have been supportive of my work and passions and studies.
